Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said the military has scored gains, but it's not clear whether these operations are part of a long-awaited major offensive which has been mooted for months.
In a statement early Monday morning, the Ministry of Defence in Moscow claimed it had killed 250 Ukrainian soldiers and destroyed tanks - or if this was the long-anticipated Ukrainian counteroffensive.
It was not immediately clear whether or not the reported attack represented the start of a Ukrainian counteroffensive, which Kyiv has been promising for months.
