Former President Donald Trump surrendered to authorities at the Fulton County Jail on Thursday evening on felony charges connected to his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential-election results in Georgia.

The Republican front-runner’s booking in Atlanta came a day after Trump skipped the first Republican presidential debate, opting instead for an interview with the former Fox News personality Tucker Carlson.

Though missing from the stage, Trump was at the center of some of the most contentious moments among his rivals. Six of the eight candidates said they would support the former president in the general election, even if he’s a convicted felon.

Joining the guest moderator and PBS NewsHour White House correspondent Laura Barrón-López to discuss this and more are Daniella Diaz, a congressional reporter at Politico; Domenico Montanaro, a senior political editor and correspondent at NPR; Toluse Olorunnipa, the White House bureau chief at The Washington Post; and Todd Zwillich, the deputy D.C. bureau chief at Vice News and the author of the Breaking the Vote newsletter.
